Koala Calm (“Koala the Companion”) · Last updated: July 22, 2026
Koala Calm (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a screen-time and focus companion built to be calm and private. It was designed from the start so that your information never leaves your iPhone. This policy explains exactly what that means, in plain language.
None. We have no servers and the app has no ability to send data anywhere. Because nothing is ever transmitted, there is no personal information for us to collect, access, store, analyse, disclose, or lose. We could not identify a single user of this app if we tried.
Everything you create in Koala Calm is written only to your own device using Apple’s standard on-device storage, and never sent to us or anyone else. This includes:
Because this data lives only on your device, we have no access to it whatsoever. Deleting the app permanently removes all of it.
During setup Koala Calm asks what it should call you. This is entirely optional — you can skip it, enter a nickname instead, or change or clear it at any time in Settings. The app works exactly the same either way.
If you provide a name, it is used for one purpose only: so your koala can speak to you by name. For example, your koala might say “Keep going, Dylan — 5 days and counting!” on the home screen, your evening reminder might read “Hey Dylan, check in tonight to keep your 5-day streak alive,” and a notification when a focus session ends might read “Hey Dylan, your off-grid time is complete.”
Your name is stored only on your device, is never transmitted to us or any third party, is never used for advertising or analytics, and is never linked to any identifier or profile. Because it can appear in notifications, it may be visible on your Lock Screen if you have notification previews turned on — you can change that in iOS Settings › Notifications.
Koala Calm can send you an optional evening check-in reminder, so you don’t lose a streak by simply forgetting, and an alert when an off-grid focus session finishes. You are asked for permission before any notification is sent. You can turn the daily reminder off at any time in the app’s Settings, or turn notifications off entirely in iOS Settings.
These are local notifications: they are scheduled and delivered entirely by your own iPhone. No push server is involved, no push token is ever registered, and nothing about you — including your name or your streak — is transmitted anywhere in order to send them.
The Focus Block feature uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity frameworks so that you can choose which of your own apps to block during a focus session.
All of it is used solely to show you your own summary and to suggest limits for your own heaviest apps. None of it ever leaves your device, is never sent to us or anyone else, and is never shared with any third party. Koala Calm is not a parental-monitoring tool: it does not report your activity to anyone, including parents or guardians.
Koala Calm includes a home-screen widget and a Live Activity that shows your focus session on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. To display these, the app shares a small amount of information — such as your streak count, remaining session time, and your name — with its own widget extensions on your device, using Apple’s standard App Group mechanism. This sharing happens entirely on your iPhone. Be aware that this information is visible on your Lock Screen, which means anyone holding your phone can see it.
Koala Calm contains no third-party code of any kind — no analytics, no advertising, no crash-reporting services, no social sign-in, no software development kits, and no external dependencies. The app links only against Apple’s own system frameworks.
We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), we do not request App Tracking Transparency permission because we have nothing to track, and we do not and cannot track you across other apps or websites. We do not build profiles, and we do not use automated decision-making of any kind.
Koala Calm requires no account, no sign-up, no email address, and no password. The app is completely free and contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no advertising. We never see or handle payment information of any kind.
In the interest of being complete: while we receive nothing, Apple operates the App Store and your device, and Apple collects its own information under Apple’s Privacy Policy — for example your download and purchase history, and, if you have chosen to share analytics and crash reports with developers, aggregated and anonymised crash statistics. We never receive information that identifies you from any of this. Apple’s handling of that data is governed by Apple’s policy, not ours.
Your data is protected by iOS itself. Every app runs in a sandbox that other apps cannot read, and the contents of your device are encrypted when it is locked with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Because nothing is ever transmitted, there is no server to breach and no database of user information in existence anywhere.
We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Your data is kept on your device for exactly as long as you keep the app. To delete everything, simply delete Koala Calm from your iPhone — all check-ins, reflections, streaks, progress, and your name are removed with it. You do not need to contact us, and there is no account to close.
Privacy laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.
Those rights are fully satisfied here by design: we hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export, or delete. You already have complete and direct access to all of your data inside the app itself, and you can erase it instantly by deleting the app. Specifically: we do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we never have. If you would like written confirmation of any of this, email us using the contact details below.
Koala Calm is suitable for a general audience. It requires no account and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The optional first name described in section 3 stays on the device and is never transmitted, so no personal information about a child (or any other user) is ever received by us, regardless of age. There is no chat, no messaging, no user-generated content shared with others, and no way for users to contact one another through the app.
Because no data ever leaves your device, there are no international data transfers, no onward transfers, and no processors or sub-processors involved in operating this app.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
